Students who received the Holt Hero Award.

More than 60 Holt Elementary students were recently recognized at the school’s Student of the Month assembly, which has become one of its highest-attended recognition activities.

It is an event in which parents, grandparents and family members fill the school multi-purpose room to celebrate their children, grandchildren or siblings for their academic achievements and positive behaviors.

“Every month we work on different traits that we choose based off of the behaviors that we're seeing in school,” explained Holt Administrative Intern Ashley Eddy. “This month we were working on being inclusive and being diligent and working hard.”

Throughout each month, teachers look for students who exhibit those traits and nominate them to be recognized at a Student of the Month assembly, she said.

Overall, the school not only recognized more than 60 students—but also honored 42 of them who had perfect attendance during the third term of the school year.

“That is something we've been really working on,” Eddy added. “… It was awesome to recognize students who are here every morning, on time, at school.”

Some students were also named Academic All-Stars for academic growth, while others were given Holt Hero awards.

Those heroes were touted for going, as Eddy explained, “above and beyond the expectations of being responsible, respectful and safe, and showing our traits of the month that we are focusing on.”
